It was another ‘blockbuster’ year for Grenada at the 2011 Caribbean Week Media Awards, during Caribbean Week in Toronto from December 5 to 10, 2011. The nearly weeklong event serves as a unique celebration of Caribbean culture and diversity. The Grenada Board of Tourism was represented at media, consumer and travel trade events in Toronto throughout the week.
For the second year running, Grenada took home two of the top awards at the annual Caribbean Tourism Organization Media Awards Luncheon, held on December 8, 2011 at the Novotel Toronto Centre. Nearly 100 media, industry members, national tourism organization representatives and Caribbean dignitaries attended the luncheon. This event serves to recognize Canadian-based media that have captured the essence of the Caribbean in their story telling.
The prizes for Best Article in a Consumer Magazine, followed by Best in Show (received 2010 and in 2011), were awarded to Kailash Maharaj and the team from City Style and Living magazine for their article ‘Paradise Found’, which ran in the Fall 2010 issue. Kailash and the four-member team from City Style and Living flew in from Calgary to be a part of this special event. Inspiration for this extensive article on Grenada came from a 2010 press trip to the Island.
Kailash and Shivana, co-editors in chief of City Style and Living magazine said, “We are honoured and humbled by these two awards from the CTO. Grenada is an unparallel island not simply for the awe-inspiring views of Grand Anse, the lush tropical interior punctuated with cacao trees and nutmeg plantations, the convivial Goyave fish fry and the world class splendour of Spice Island Beach Resort, but because Grenada evokes an unmistakable rush that you can only discover when you visit.”
Congratulations are in order to LMA’s own Lindsay Tessis who arranged a stellar press trip in 2010 to Grenada for the editorial team of City Style and Living magazine. Her efforts directly contributed towards the Best Magazine and Best in Show awards for the 10-page ‘Paradise Found’ spread with images. Well done Lindsay!
